Linux Hosting Vs. Windows Hosting

When looking for a website hosting provider you will come across many options, while some of them are minor, one of the larger options being the operating system the host runs off. In recent years, Linux has become very popular in the hosting industry as it is a good quality and is very affordable as the software is open source. While Linux is somewhat dominant in the market, the dominating home/business operating systems Windows also has hosting servers that operate on it. In order to determine which of these groups may be appropriate for your needs, it is important to weigh the options accordingly.

Both Linux hosting and Windows hosting are pretty comparable in many ways but when looking closely you will notice a couple of differences. While the vast majority of features are identical, many people place a great deal of emphasis on the software rather than focusing on who is offering the best features and service. When it comes to the pricing of Linux and Windows it is nearly identical with both being very affordable alternatives. As you start looking at what is included in the hosting plans you will most likely be impressed as the industry is very competitive and so packages are usually filled with great perks to make that package unique.

Although the features are nearly identical, Linux is the more popular of the two choices. While there is no definite reason for why this is the case, the increasing ease of use of the Linux system has likely increased its use . Linux as an operating system is generally looked at as being more stable and thus that also contributes to a large following. When it comes to Windows hosting however, it is equally as stable as its Linux counterpart. Windows hosting has the advantage of complete use of ASP and ASP-Net, so if you are more comfortable working with ASP then Windows hosting may be the choice for you. At the end of the day, the decision comes down to you and your personal preferences and although Linux hosting is somewhat the industry standard it does not mean that it will meet your needs. For that reason it is important to look at all options available to you and make a decision based on your needs.
