Sun Chili!Soft ASP provides run-time Active Server Pages (ASP or .asp) support for Linux systems and associated Web servers. It features ASP and Web design tool compatibility: syntax equivalency to Microsoft's ASP 2.0 means that customers with existing ASP applications will be able to deploy those applications on Sun Chili!Soft ASP with little or no changes to code. Dynamic applications developed with any of the most popular Web development tools (Microsoft FrontPage 2000 and Visual InterDev, Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev, Adobe GoLive) can be deployed on Sun Chili!Soft ASP as well.
Sun Chili!Soft ASP extends beyond compatibility with Microsoft's ASP. With a built-in technology called Chili!Beans, programmers have full access to Java's object-oriented environment directly from ASP scripting. Now you can protect your existing investment in Java (including JavaBeans and EJBs). Chili!Beans acts as a dynamic COM wrapper which then exposes the public methods and properties of the wrapped Java class. Chili!Beans allows Java programmers to build business logic in Java objects and integrate them with ASP Web applications running on any supported operating system, creating an extensible, open Web application platform.
Chili!Soft ASP includes ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) for standards-based data access to a wide variety of databases, including all ODBC-compliant databases. ADO provides easy yet powerful object-oriented database access from Sun Chili!Soft ASP scripting languages or custom objects. Also provided are tools to link databases across heterogeneous machines through ODBC, allowing flexibility when configuring Web server/application server/database server back-end systems. Sun Chili!Soft ASP is powered by an advanced architecture that features a configurable multithreaded engine for reliability and performance, plus advanced performance features that include page caching, automatic process fail-over and restart, and database connection pooling.
Sun Chili!Soft ASP also includes two scripting languages (VBScript and JScript), the five intrinsic ASP objects for basic server functionality, and standards-based database access via the ActiveX Data Objects (ADO). With Sun Chili!Soft ASP, you can also use your own or third-party Java or CORBA objects. The Sun Chili!Soft ASP administration console is a user-friendly, browser-based interface that makes it easier than ever to monitor, configure, and administrate Sun Chili!Soft ASP and the Web server. Even server administrators unfamiliar with Solaris can manage and monitor Web servers and the ASP engine. The administration console also provides access to fully up-to-date, searchable, and indexed Sun Chili!Soft ASP documentation.
